Nowadays, when people search for a product or service, they “google it.” To illustrate, if a pipe is damaged, I would google “plumber” or “mineola plumber,” and in seconds, I have a list of local plumbers. Access to this information is great for me and the plumber who gets my business. But, how does a local business get found online?
When a local search is performed, a map displaying local businesses (see image below) will appear in the search results. To appear in the Google local map results, a business will need a GMB profile. It is easy to create a profile using Google My Business, first sign up, enter information, and get verified.
Once a business is setup on GMB it is eligible to appear in the local search results.
A proven method to rank in the local search results is to get local citations. According to MOZ “a local citation is any online mention of the name, address, and phone number for a local business. Citations can occur on local business directories, on websites and apps, and on social platforms.”

It is important to have identical NAPs throughout GMB and citations.
For example: If your GMB address is 420 Google Avenue, Suite 300
and your business address on Yelp is 430 Google Ave, #300
the NAPs here are conflicting, and the Yelp address should be updated to reflect GMB.
